Green chemistry is the utilisation of a set of principles that reduces or eliminates the use or generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture and application of chemical products. Life cycle assessment, (LCA), is a technique used to assess the environmental footprints and human health impacts of products in their entire life cycle from cradle to grave. To meet the goals of sustainability, green chemistry should be studied from a life-cycle perspective and this series demonstrates the application and evaluation of LCA in green chemistry.
