Christopher Green is a researcher in Korean Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. He has published widely on North Korean political messaging strategies, contemporary South Korean broadcast media, and Xi Jinping-era PRC foreign policy vis-a-vis the DPRK. He is the former Manager of International Affairs for Daily NK, a digital periodical on North Korean affairs based in Seoul, and translator of the memoir of senior North Korean defector, Hwang Jang-yop.

Biography

Christopher has a passion for the Korean peninsula that spans more than two decades. First attracted to the region by the defection of Hwang Jang-yop, a senior official in the North Korean government who left for South Korea in February 1997, he spent much of the decade from 2003 to the end of 2012 working in Seoul as a journalist specializing in North Korean history and current affairs. He returned to Europe to begin work as a researcher in 2013.

    Christopher is an expert on North Korean politics and society, particularly state-society relations in the post-Cold War marketization era, and on South Korean politics.
