FEATURED AUTHOR
Andrea Connor
Andrea’s work is framed by an ongoing interest in the politics of materiality and the way in which materials, objects and places become part of political struggle in highly contested contexts. She works across the fields of cultural and human geography, political theory, critical heritage studies, theories of affect and the emergent field of New Materialisms. Andrea is currently a post-doctoral research fellow at the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University.
Biography
Andrea’s research interests include the politics of heritage destruction and reconstruction, the agency of cultural memory in disputed contexts, affect and affective atmospheres, issues of sustainability and the politics of placemaking in cities. Her interdisciplinary approach aims to bring into conversation modes of analysis often kept apart to produce a more expansive, distributed and relational notion of political agency. Andrea has also worked as a journalist covering international current affairs and as a researcher at the City of Sydney. She is currently based at the Institute for Culture and Society and is working on an ARC funded research project investigating the ‘vertical turn’ in geography and the politics of density in mega-cities.Education
